ABOUT ME
Becoming the best version of yourself
My name is Lucia Lo Passo. I am a professional counsellor and have been teaching for many years.
What I have at heart is promoting one’s well-being through counselling, helping people make themselves the focal point, thus improving the quality of their lives.
My interest is in working with people who decide to share this journey with me, so that they may become the best version of themselves.
I accompany clients in particular phases of their existence, in those difficult moments when at times it may seem hard to see the way out alone. I search for a way out alongside them. Their new path.
What guides me is a love of human beings and the trust I have in their immense potential. I carry out individual, couple or small group (work team) journeys with adults, pre-adolescents and adolescents.
Having completed my Master in Specific Learning Disabilities, I am also able to support students with academic difficulties.
I offer sessions in Italian, English and French. I am bound by the obligation of confidentiality.
To become a professional counselor, I attended the Master of Advanced Studies in Counseling at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) with a cognitive-systemic approach. I have also studied numerous relaxation, imaginative, meditative and mindfulness techniques (based on psychosynthetic orientation). I am a member of the Cosi Association (Counsellor of Italian Switzerland) and of the Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Beratung (SGfB – Swiss Counseling Society).
I schedule appointments in Mendrisio at ArsQure Studi Medici, Via V. Vela 9, or in a private counselling space in Agno (near the airport). I am also available for telephone or online sessions on various platforms (Zoom or Skype).

WHAT IS COUNSELLING
Are you going through a difficult moment in your life? Do you feel the need to talk about it? Together we can find your answers.
Professional counselling is a relationship of help, through talking, the counsellor being subject to confidentiality.
It is a space of listening and reflection, in which to explore difficulties regarding evolutionary processes, transition phases, and crisis situations, in order to reinforce the ability of choice or change.
The counsellor represents a competent and professional response for whoever feels the need for support in facing a particular phase of his/her life:
● difficult or hostile family situations
● emotionally painful events (bereavement, illness, etc.)
● professional or educational choices
● issues or misunderstandings at work
● issues or distress at school (also for supporting students with Specific Learning Disabilities)
1. difficult or hostile family situations
2. emotionally painful events (bereavement, illness, etc.)
3. professional or educational choices
4. issues or misunderstandings at work
5. issues or distress at school (also for supporting students with Specific Learning Disabilities)
This intervention belongs to “brief therapy” (maximum 8-10 sessions) and makes use of various methodologies.
It applies to the individual (adult, pre-adolescent, adolescent), families, professional teams and takes place in various settings, such as private, social, scholastic, healthcare as well as business.

HOW A COUNSELLING SESSION WORKS
Every man takes the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world.
A. Schopenhauer
People often arrive at their counselling session worried, confused, angry, distressed or anxious about a difficult situation which has emerged in their lives. They are unable to activate their internal resources – which they often already possess – to best face the situation.
Working with them, I observe their moment of distress from other points of view, so as to activate a positive change, in order to find possibilities and alternative ways of facing an occurrence which seems complicated or accompanied by high emotional intensity.
A counselling session consists of various phases and usually lasts 60 minutes:
1. LISTENING: as counsellor I offer a protected space in which the client feels welcomed, heard and not judged.
2. IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS: I ask targeted questions with the aim of shedding light on certain critical aspects and organising the client’s thoughts to help re-establish clarity of mind.
3. AIM: I set a work goal with the client. The goal is to allow the client to recover his/her own resources and balance, necessary to reach improvement. I then accompany him/her until the moment of crisis has been resolved.
As a counsellor I am bound by the obligation of confidentiality, what emerges in a session is strictly confidential
THE COGNITIVE-SYSTEMIC APPROACH
...may the existence we live become our most treasured thing, of which to be proud.
M. C. Koch
These thoughts have a decisive impact on what we feel. The feelings, emotions and sensations we perceive arise from the messages we send to ourselves.
Often it is not what happens which unsettles us, rather the opinions we have of that event.
We arrive at an impasse, we lose clarity of mind due to an important emotional experience and we cannot see the resources at our disposal to overcome the difficulty.
This does not mean denying that life often puts us to the test. Nonetheless, it is possible to learn to change our way of thinking and adopt new values and convictions.
The cognitive-systemic approach is based on the evolution of the cognitive-behavioural and systemic models.
According to this approach our thoughts, which are able to amplify a distressing situation and get us stuck, are however also able to resolve it!
Even simply the awareness of some of our mind’s operating principles can give benefit, removing power from the distressing situation. That within our mind is a journey worth taking, and which we can do together. You will decide on your own, but not alone.
